The most talked about mobile phone is now coming to the Philippine shores under Globe Telecom. Earlier today, Globe Telecom announced to the public about the coming of the iPhone 3G in the Philippine market on August 22, 2008. The iPhone 3G came out in the United States last July 11, 2008. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone plus 3G networking that is twice as fast*, built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs hundreds of third party applications available through the new App Store. The 8GB comes in black while the 16GB comes in black and white.

“We are very excited to launch iPhone 3G here in the Philippines. Beginning August 22, Globe is bringing to the Filipinos the best browsing experience through the revolutionary iPhone 3G on our 3G/HSDPA network,” said Gerardo C. Ablaza Jr., president and CEO of Globe Telecom.

How much would be the iPhone 3G in the Philippines?
Globe Telecom will be offering special postpaid plans and prepaid kits bundled with the iPhone (with 24-month lock-in period). Those who would be applying for the postpaid plans would be receiving free mobile internet hours and free Wi-Fi browsing hours in areas covered by Globe Wireless Internet Zones.

The following are available postpaid plans for the iPhone 3G:

If you are interested to purchase the iPhone 3G prepaid kit, the price for an 8GB iPhone would be P41,899 and P48,889 for a 16GB iPhone. Upon purchasing the iPhone 3G prepaid kit, you can enjoy 50 hours of free mobile internet hours for five months.

Starting today, interested parties can start reserving their iPhone 3G unit/s by calling Globe’s 24-Hour Call-in Service via landline (632)7301000 or 211 via toll-free mobile or visiting www.iphone3g.globe.com.ph.

What’s the “twice as fast, half the price” thing you’re talking, Steve Jobs?

*Based on 3G and EDGE testing. Actual speeds vary by site conditions.

I bought my iPhone just a month ago and I’m very happy with it. Well, good news to those who are waiting for the iPhone to become available here in the Philippines because Globe Telecom is bringing it here. There is still no definite date for the Philippine launch of the iPhone. But rest assured that the iPhone would be available in the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia this year.

Good job to Globe for finally signing the agreement with Apple. I just hope that the iPhone would not be overpriced. I do hope that when the 3G iPhone comes out in the US is that it would be released here in the Philippines simultaneously.

I guess that people will still jailbreak their iPhones even though it is bought from Globe as jailbreaking the iPhone would maximize the iPhone’s resources.
