I want to be a person of substance

May 5th, 2008 | By Jeric Peña | Category: Blogging, News, Random Thoughts

Attending the iBlog4, I was exposed to a lot of political bloggers. There is Manolo, Arbet, Ria and many others.

And I want to become one of them. I have zero knowledge about politics. I just want to blog about current events and my opinions about them. But I don’t have the guts to do it.

Maybe I’m just scared to be criticized.

I may not have that perfect grammar, but I want to become a person of substance.

I hate to be stereotyped as a blogger who just rant and rave. Yes, I do rant sometimes but my blog isn’t full of rant and raves. I do blog about Pinoy Idol, American Idol and other things but not just rants.

I’m turning 17 this year and as early I now, I want to become more socially conscious. I think it will be very beneficial on my part to become more socially conscious this early as I would be a voter by 2009 – hopefully I’ll vote by 2010.

I once submitted a report to ABS-CBN’s BOTO MO, IPATROL MO. And luckily, they featured it on TVPatrol a few days after. And I must say this citizen journalism is cool and I’m loving it.

    1. I’m sure, with due diligence (e.g., doing your studies, reading and reading and reading, and always practicing by posting your opinions — and learning to accept criticism), you’ll become just as prolific and readership-worthy as Manolo, Arbet and Ria.

Heck, the mere fact that you want to be a “person of substance” makes you a person of substance!

      Goodluck :)

P.S. Substance is not achieved through political blogging alone. You can blog about your pet cat and if you are a “person of substance”, it will show. ;)

    2. @Jon Limjap: Thanks to your comments. I just read my blog’s archive and I was surprised that I’ve been blogging about current events (specifically on Elections) since last year. :)

    3. My advise for you is to concentrate on the field that you love most. I noticed that you have this passion for philippine entertainment. Don’t worry Jeric, bata ka pa. Just do you best and put your heart into your works. Kaya mo yan! :)

    4. Just keep on reading, learning, writing, sharing, and being yourself, Jeric. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about blogging, it’s having the strength not to overly mind the put-downs of other people.

Eventually, you’ll reach the point when you will confidently not mind what others think of you. And believe it or not, you already are a person of substance, Jeric. :-)

    5. @Micamyx and Antipolo Properties:

Thank you for your heartwarming comments. :)

    6. Hi Jeric. For me, you are a person of substance and hope more young folks will be inspired by your blogging pursuits.

    7. @Janette – Thanks, Janette. I just don’t want to be stereotyped as a “rant and rave” blogger. :)
