The Holy Week for me
Apr 8th, 2007 | By Jeric Peña | Category: Life, Random Thoughts UPDATE: I just upgraded my WordPress to 2.1.3
April 5, 2007 – Maundy Thursday
My Ate and I attended the Mass of the Lord’s Supper / Washing of the Feet from 5:00PM to almost 7:00PM. The mass was quite long because the Blessed Sacrament was exposed for the vigil. After the mass, we went home and prepare for the visita iglesia together with my cousins, auntie and uncle. We visited seven churches and we also recite the Stations of the Cross (2 stations per church). The seven churches are as follows (in no particular order):
- San Roque Cathedral (Caloocan City)
- Our Lady of Grace Parish (Caloocan City)
- Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish (can’t remember the location)
- Our Lady of Hope Parish (Quezon City)
- Santo Niño Shrine (Quezon City)
- Christ the King Parish (Quezon City)
- Santo Domingo Church (Quezon City)
I don’t have any pictures to show because I’m still waiting for my cousin to send me the copy of the pictures they took during our visita iglesia.
April 6, 2007 – Good Friday
At 4:00AM, we witnessed and prepared for the Cenaculo sa Kalye. The second station was performed infront of our house. I must say that this year’s Cenaculo was well-prepared although the script, the actors/actresses, the costumes, and the props are the same. But instead of staging the Cenaculo on the covered court beside the church, they staged it along the streets of our subdivision. It is like a walking theater -they’re transferring from one street to another every scene. I got the copy of the video already but I don’t have the time to upload on YouTube or somewhere else. We just stayed home and watched the procession of the Santo Intiero (The dead Christ).
April 7, 2007 – Black Saturday
I was really planning to attend the Easter Vigil last night but my sisters are insisting to go to Mall of Asia but we end up going to Bonifacio High Street – I love Bonificio High Street!!! Before going to Bonifacio High Street, we drop by the Binondo Church and the Shrine of Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life (near Mall of Asia) and say a little prayer. I bought my ate a new Starbucks Water Bottle and I bought my self a new Starbucks Mug!
April 8, 2007 – Easter Sunday
At around 4:00AM we went to the church in order to watch this year’s Salubong but the Salubong started at around quarter to five. Unfortunately, this year’s Salubong was a disaster. Why? The statues was not positioned face-to-face and defeats the purpose of the Salubong. We arrived home discussing about the disappointing Salubong. According to my mom’s record, this would be our seventh year watching the Salubong together. Pictures to follow as soon as my cousin sends them. Hahahaha…
All in all, I got a very meaningful and blessed Holy Week.

Glad you had a great Easter week… my Easter Sunday just started so I’d better get to cooking
Those are the kinds of Filipino traditions I missed out on growing up here in Canada. Still, my family has its own traditions on special days.
Wishing you and your readers… a belated Happy Easter.
