Why does ABS-CBN cites YouTube as their video source?

ABS-CBN has been really mad at people who upload clips from their shows (or even the whole show itself) on video sharing sites. A lot of these illegally posted clips are being deleted as soon as they have been found or reported. I just don’t know why ABS-CBN hates YouTube people but these YouTube people would end up as their source for video clips too.

Copyright. Copyright. Copyright. I know.

YouTube has been a haven for television fans that misses a portion of their favorite television shows. There are a lot of people who religiously upload episodes and or portions of certain TV shows on YouTube for people who have missed them. The people who upload copyrighted materials (ABS-CBN shows) on YouTube makes ABS-CBN so mad that they asked YouTube to remove these videos and eventually delete the account of the user.

I find it very ironic that at the end of the day, YouTube would still be a source of ABS-CBN for video clips. You hate people who upload your videos on YouTube because they are violating copyright then why choose it as your video source? There have been numerous times that ABS-CBN cites YouTube as source of their video on their news reports and television shows. Without YouTube, we won’t be seeing the video of Charice’s performance on Ellen, Oprah and other international shows. Without YouTube, Madonna Decena and Charlie Green would be unknown to us. Again, why are they using YouTube as source of these videos knowing the fact that the people who uploaded the Ellen, Oprah, and Britain Got’s Talent video on YouTube violates copyright too? ABS-CBN, just imagine your life without YouTube.

And by the way, citing YouTube is like citing Google or any search engine as your source, which is very stupid. Why not put the name of the uploader? Or why not contact the broadcasting company of the show and ask for the copy of the video and pay certain royalty fees? Oh, I’m not surprised that ABS-CBN is fond of using Garageband Royalty-Free music on their shows.

I’m just confused!

In the end, YouTube is here to stay!

No Truth to 6.8 Magnitude Earthquake in the Philippines tonight

Note: US GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY PREDICTS A 6.8 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE WILL HIT PHILIPPINE PLATES TONIGHT.PLS BE CALM & ALERT. This txt msg is from Hawaii state emergency preparedness office. Pls pass (no harm in being prepared) lets pray dis will not happen.

This was the text message, which was being forwarded to me and even my family members since this morning. In fact, even the people were following in Twitter are tweeting about it. My mom called our house just to check on us!

According to an interview conducted by DZMM with Director Renato Solidum of PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology & Seismology), there is no truth to this text message. He also added that there is no such thing as US Geological Society and Hawaii State Emergency Preparedness Office. In fact, the US counterpart of PHIVOLCS is the US Geological Survey not Society. You could view the YouTube video I have uploaded. Dir. Renato Solidum also noted that it there is neither instrument nor technology that can predict when and where an earthquake can occur. Solidum states that there is really a possibility that an earthquake this massive (6.8 magnitude as noted on the text message) can occur in the Philippines. But the thing is, no one can determine when would this occur (of course except the psychics.). Solidum adviced the public not to forward the text messages.

According to the USGS website, neither the USGS nor Caltech nor any other scientists have ever predicted a major earthquake. And, probabilities of an earthquake shouldn’t be confused with the prediction of a particular event.

Anyway, better be safe everyone!

PHIVOLCS CLARIFICATION

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology would like to inform the general public that the text message currently circulating in the Philippines about a prediction by a certain “US Geological Society” of a “magnitude 6.8 earthquake to hit Philippine Plates tonight”, purportedly issued by the “Hawaii State Emergency Preparedness Office” IS A HOAX. This hoax started the day after the Magnitude 7.9 China earthquake of May 12, 2008.

There is no organization currently capable of predicting an earthquake which is very specific in terms of magnitude and the date. There is no “US Geological Society”, only US Geological SURVEY but this agency does not issue immediate predictions especially for areas outside the United States of America. Past experiences show that rumors of a predicted strong earthquake are common after disastrous earthquakes in nearby countries.

The Philippines can be affected by a major earthquake but as to when exactly this would happen cannot be predicted and what is important is we continue to practice earthquake preparedness and risk reduction measures. via [PHIVOLCS Website]

Here’s TV Patrol’s feature on the rumors spreading thru text message about a 6.8 magnitude earthquake striking the Philippines tonight.

iPhone to launch in the Philippines SOON!

I bought my iPhone just a month ago and I’m very happy with it. Well, good news to those who are waiting for the iPhone to become available here in the Philippines because Globe Telecom is bringing it here. There is still no definite date for the Philippine launch of the iPhone. But rest assured that the iPhone would be available in the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia this year.

Good job to Globe for finally signing the agreement with Apple. I just hope that the iPhone would not be overpriced. I do hope that when the 3G iPhone comes out in the US is that it would be released here in the Philippines simultaneously.

I guess that people will still jailbreak their iPhones even though it is bought from Globe as jailbreaking the iPhone would maximize the iPhone’s resources.

I Heart My Mom! Happy Mother’s Day!

Since Mother’s day would be on Sunday, May 11, 2008, Joni of TaintedSong.com started a meme about our moms! Isn’t that cool? Here are the rules:

The rules are simple: (1) Post a photo of you and your mom together (recent or old) and write the words “I heart my mom” across it (or type the text below the photo if you don’t feel like opening your image-editing software). (2) Tag your friends!

I HEART MY MOM! Happy Mother’s Day! See how much I love my mom? I even had my picture taken with her on the Fotoloco booth during the David & Goliath event. Love you mom

Anyways, I’m tagging Dianne, Roxanne, Redel, and everyone else who loves their mom! Go post your pictures with your mom! :)
